Can persons with hemophilia receive antithrombotic therapy?¶
Answer: Yes, but treatment needs to be highly individualized.
- As patients live longer and accrue more vascular and thrombotic risk factors, the treatment paradigm has shifted toward preserving quality of life and reducing morbidity from other diseases related to age and aging, in addition to the usual principles of preventing bleeding complications.

Can emicizumab be used to treat patients with severe type 3 VWD?¶
Answer: Emicizumab is an emerging off-label treatment for patients with type 3 VWD, with multiple case reports describing favorable control of bleeding.
- Two major studies are ongoing: EmiVWD and Will-EMI (NCT06998524).
